HOLY COW! SOON TO ARRIVE! For the first time, Martin is making a Custom 12-string in the new, Grand Performance body size! This will be a very special 12-string guitar, built using the Grand J12-40E appointments and pickup! The cutaway, along with the very low-profile Performing Artist neck, should result in an extremely fast fretboard! The short 24.9" scale length, along with the 1 13/16"at the nut (Usually the 12-string models are wider than this.) make this Martin so wonderfully playable! The bone nut and saddle will produce very clear mid- and treble-range tones; while the East Indian Rosewood back and sides and the Sitka Spruce top keep the bass powerful and resonant! What a treat to have Jean Larrivee once again reprise his wonderful-sounding Jumbo model, and this in a glorious 12-string guitar! We were in ecstasy when we played our newly-arrived Larrivee Custom, and were awed by the sheer volume and richness of tone!Yes, this IS made with our glorious Spruce that grew in a forested grove of trees in Cremona, Italy, where so many French and Italian violin makers, as well as mandolin luthiers, chose their topwoods! Then, fabulous and carefully selected East Indian Rosewood was joined and braced, and tuned with 18:1 ratio geared tuning machines made especially for Larrivee by Faradyne. For our special guitars, Jean Larrivee employed a remarkable achievement in guitar amplification, with the addition of the new and much-hailed Baggs Anthem pickup--no feedback even with the microphone inside! Larrivee's original L-body size has inspired many guitar makers and players over the decades, and so we chose to ask him to make this one-of-a-kind 12-string in the comfortable "L" size. To pair with our very special Italian Alpine Spruce top, Larrivee used specially-selected East Indian Rosewood for this guitar. With the addition of 18:1 ratio geared tuning machines by Faradyne, and stunning Koa for the binding, herringbone trim around the top and inlaid Abolone pearl bridge wings make a perfect visual presentation! And when you plug into an amp or a sound system, your acoustic sensibility will receive faithfully intoned tones with the addition of the revolutionary non-feedback Baggs Anthem pickup. We literally gasped at the beauty of this Quilted Mahogany back and sides, when we first received our new Custom Collection 12-string! Of course, the first thing we did after unpacking it was to play it. Marty first, then Don! The sound is sweet, yet robust, clear but not jangly, just like you would expect a beautiful Mahogany 12-string to sound! And THIS Mahogany is made with an especially great-sounding group of backs and sides, and then added to that glorious Italian Alpine Spruce Larrivee purchased at Cremona, Italy! Wow! We could not believe our great good fortune in being privileged to buy all this wood, and have one of America's premier luthiers build our guitars with it! Marty selected Curly Maple binding for this beauty, and also asked for the bridge wing inlays and Herrinbone inlay around the top, as well as pearl dots in the Ebony fingerboard. LARRIVEE CUSTOM LJ-05E, 12-STRING, Italian Alpine Spruce/Quilted Mahogany Back and Sides
Talk about a CUSTOM!!?! Jean Larrivee has built very few of this body size, and it is truly spectacular when made into a 12-string guitar! The body is not as deep as our Jumbo model, but the lower bout measurement is the same. This is in the shape of an "L" body, but slightly larger. Well, as if this wasn't enough, gaze upon the spectacular woods, both in appearance and sound! Since the premium and rare Quilted Mahogany and Italian Alpine Spruce top woods make for such a magnificent sounding 12-string, it is easy to overlook the other specially-chosen features, like the Herringbone top trim, and the Abalone pearl bridge wings, and the simple but elegant pearl dots on the fingerboard! 12-String lovers!! Amazing, fabulous, huge sound!!! Incredibly easy to play, the neck is a surprisingly narrow 1 13/16"!!! As on all "40" series Martins, this guitar is built with the finest East Indian Rosewood, and premium Sitka Spruce from Alaska. Beautiful Abalone pearl adorns the rosette, and the long pattern diamond and squares are inlaid on the Ebony fingerboard. The C. F. Martin name is proudly inlaid with Abalone pearl, in block letters! Surprisingly, the top bracing is a progressively scalloped 5/16", a different direction for Martin in 12-string guitars! This is a new, wonderful Martin offering! The back and sides are made with rare Amazon Rosewood, which gives this treasure flatpicked or fingerpicked versatility! They stamped "C. F. Martin and Company, Nazareth, Pa." on the back of the headstock, for tradition's sake! With a 24.9" scale length and a smaller 1 13/16" at the bone nut, you will be thrilled at your enriched capacity to make fabulous music with this Custom creation! On the fingerboard we selected Engraved Diamonds, and these are becoming recognized as our special choice for Wildwood's Custom instruments. We also love Bob Taylor's "Cindy" inlay for the bridge. This wonderful Jumbo Martin 12-string guitar was made by CFM's finest luthiers in the Custom Shop. The top really sets the tone with its extraordinarily rare Italian Alpine Spruce. This wood is from the same area in the Italian Alps that Stradavari went to select the tops for his fine violins. The back and sides are made from premium East Indian Rosewood; and, when combined with a hand-made one-piece Custom Honduran Mahogany neck, the overall resonance of the 12 strings is enhanced greatly. To amplify the majestic sound, Martin installed the ever-popular Fishman Matrix Natural One pickup. Made with a beautiful Engelmann Alpine Spruce top, this guitar has forward-shifted pattern bracing. We had this guitar crafted with Taylor's 24 7/8" Short Scale! Talk about playability! This already eminently comfortable Taylor neck is even more comfortable to maneuver around the frets! And then, there is that magnificent 12-string response of the Amazon Rosewood and Engelmann Spruce—Wow! The soundhole rosette is ornamented with a single ring of Abalone pearl, and the fingerboard has the 600-series inlay pattern—described by Taylor as a "Pearl 'Leaf' Pattern". Gold tuners and Presentation bridge inlay round out the luscious visual adornments to this beautiful instrument! We left the pickguard off, because of the beauty of the natural top. How cool is this?! A 12-string Taylor guitar, with rare "Sinker" Redwood for the top! And, the especially hand-picked East Indian Rosewood will really add to the excellent sound, which we are sure will be spectacular! On the fingerboard, the engraved diamonds help guide the way; and, to draw your eye to the magnificent Sinker top, we added the Byzentine inlay to the bridge! A short scale length was chosen for this Custom, since our previous twelves, that were built in the BTO shop with this feature, fairly charmed our excited customers! Taylor 12-strings normally are very comfortable to play, and sound quite fabulous; but we were so very pleased with the incredible sound, and enhanced comfort of the shorter scale length, that we definitely wanted this original to be built the same way as our previous short scale 12-strings!
