 Many of the original Martin guitars made in 1833 and after were crafted with very dense Maple for the backs and sides. This was due to C. F. Martin's making Maple instruments while he apprenticed under the great European guitar maker, Johan Stauffer--of Vienna, Austria. In the United States, it was very difficult to obtain extremely high-quality Maple tone wood; so C. F. Martin switched to Rosewood. We have really looked forward to getting a 0000-12 String Custom Martin! Our friends at Martin suggested a very special Custom 12-string bracing pattern with Graduated, Scalloped Tone Bars which bring out more resonance and vibrance. In addition, the bracing also has 5/16" Adirondack cross-braces. There is a more narrow and comfortable 1 13/16" width at the bone nut, as well as Martin's 24.9" Short Scale; and the neck has the Modified Low Oval carve, making it eminently easy to chord and pick! This rare Sinker Mahogany was recovered from the bottom of a river in Belize. It had absorbed minerals from the water over the centuries. Harvest and export of this old-growth Mahogany was ceased prior to the arrival of CF Martin in America in 1833. Martin believes this Sinker Mahogany to be 500-600 years old. Martin's early dreadnought guitars were "slope-shouldered" in design, with a narrow waist. This CEO-6 Sunburst model, inspired by Chris Martin, hails back to his Grandfather's day. But, instead of being joined at the 12th fret, this model is modernized to be a 14-fret guitar. The dovetail-joined neck, with a 1 3/4" bone nut, is carved in the so very slim, comfortable Performing Artist taper. The Adirondack top has 5/16" scalloped braces, which makes this a flatpicking powerhouse; and the 2 3/16" string spacing at the bone saddle brings special joy to fingerpickers! The Adirondack Spruce top on this special Custom model was taken down to a thickness of .105”, and each Adi brace was delicately hand-scalloped and placed in Martin’s powerful “Golden Era” pattern. Hot hide glue was meticulously applied to join the braces to the top, and bring back, sides, and top together! The Madagascar wood used for the back and sides of this guitar was carefully hand-sanded, to achieve a perfect balance between maintaining the integrity of the wood and the ideal weight of the instrument—the goal being to produce maximum volume. Goal achieved—big time!!

And, we haven’t even raved about the sound of this 000 yet! You’ll never be accused of playing too softly on this supposedly small-bodied Martin—it cuts like a virtual giant of a guitar! There’s precise clarity in delicate fingerstylings; yet, its explosive report--when flatpicked--literally makes you think it is “standing up on its hind legs” and shouting!
