John McQuarrie, Founder of Northwood Guitars, apprenticed for 7 years with Jean Larrivee, before embarking on his own handmade creations, in 1996. He is a perfectionist, which suits him well in his chosen profession. You can't find any glue drippings, or splinters of wood, or bits of sawdust lurking inside of a Northwood guitar. All of our wonderful Northwood guitars feature solid Mahogany, very comfortable necks which are dovetail-joined to the body. John stands behind all his guitars with a limited lifetime warranty to the original owner.
We are so pleased to be able to present these hand-crafted treasures to our customers, here at Wildwood Music!
HERE'S WHAT IS CURRENTLY IN STOCK, AT WILDWOOD:
R-80 Mini-Jumbo: Of all the body sizes that John McQuarrie makes, this has been the most popular, by far! The lush, deep low-end is balanced by clear, pure mids and highs. This gorgeous guitar is artfully hand-crafted with Master Grade Englemann for the top, and very fine, high quality East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. Flamed Maple binding accents the body, and grained ivoroid sets off the fingerboard and the Squared headstock. Colorful Abalone pearl is skillfully inlaid around the soundhole, Abalone position dots on the fingerboard help to show the way to your searching fingers. John really put his heart and soul into this guitar!
R-80 Mini-Jumbo Cutaway: As John built this guitar in his new workshop, perhaps he was gazing out his window at the beautiful mountains North of Vancouver, where he and his family live. The majesty of this scenery may have inspired this spectacular instrument. John used the finest Englemann Spruce, and perfectly bookmatched East Indian Rosewood. Around the body, he chose to continue the Rosewood motif, joining the sides of the guitar with wood purflings. He inlaid striking Abalone pearl around the Rosette, and used grained Ivoroid to adorn the fingerboard and headstock. He carefully fitted the nearly-completed guitar with the fabulous B-band, dual-source pickup. John finished up with Abalone dots on the Ebony fretboard, put on the strings over the bone nut and saddle, and gave it the first strum! "Wow, what a beautiful sound!" he must have exclaimed to himself!
R-70 Mini-Jumbo Cutaway, with the no-cut Fishman Ellipse Blender The soundbox begins with beautifully-bookmatched East Indian Rosewood, and elegantly topped with old-growth Redwood--taken from fallen timbers. The artfully-bound body and fingerboard features highly-flamed Maple; and a traditional Herringbone rosette rounds out this beauty! A Bone nut and saddle enhance the already-incredible response, which--with the rare Redwood top--is remarkably clear and forceful!. John, you did yourself proud with this fabulous creation!
